Mobile App or Mobile Website?
Posted: 4/15/2011
As the smartphone and mobile device market share increases, the need for B2B, or B2C continues to grow. The big question facing businesses looking to collaborate with staff or connect to customers is: Mobile App or Mobile Website?
Digital Active has developed mobile app prototypes on iPhone and Android operating systems. But with all things considered, our approach is to develop mobile websites. This strategy seems to be on the rise, as noted in the April issue of Entrepreneur magazine. Writer John Arnold notes the pros and cons of the two approaches. Arnold is quick to point out that the strategy behind mobile development depends on the target audience, but mobile websites are on the rise. The main benefit is a mobile website is that it can be accessed through a mobile web browser, regardless of the device. "With mobile apps, you need to develop a new app for every type of device you want to reach, while just one mobile website can reach anyone with a device that has web browsing", says Arnold. For Digital Active, the mobile website approach is the perfect fit for extending the capabilities of our ActiveOffice suite. The mobile market is expanding at an astonishing pace. For many of our clients, utilizing a mobile version of ActiveOffice is the logical next step in staying connected.
